Recognizing that a parent is a child’s first and most important teacher, Newberry County First Steps provides parenting programs that promote child health, wellbeing, and learning. Services are free and provided at levels that meet the family’s needs, from group and peer support to in-home coaching and home visiting.

Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a national, evidence-based home visitation model designed to ensure young children are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. PAT services include personal visits from a parent educator at least twice monthly; monthly group connections with other PAT families; screenings and assessments to identify developmental concerns; and connections to outside resources that families may need to succeed.

Newberry First Steps partners with the School District of Newberry County to provide the PAT curriculum within the more comprehensive Newberry Family Literacy Parenting Program.

Triple P is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programs in the world, backed up by more than 35 years of ongoing research. Triple P gives parents simple and practical strategies to help them build strong, healthy relationships, confidently manage their children's behavior, and prevent problems developing.
