Reach Out and Read
Newberry First Steps added the nationally recognized Reach Out and Read (ROR) program during the Spring of 2020. ROR promotes daily reading and provides other engaging language-rich activities for young children. Reading together promotes healthy brain development, furthers language acquisition, and helps families build meaningful bonds.
The pediatric team at Pediatrics of Newberry provides families, at routine check-ups, with the knowledge and tools they need to make reading a part of their daily routine. By integrating reading aloud into pediatric care, we reach more children across the county—a quarter of whom come from low-income families.
Newberry First Steps provides funding, through Reach Out and Read, for the books purchased to give to the children.
Together, we can make reading a part of every child’s life and help provide all young people with a foundation for success throughout their lives.
